Port Caldera

This Port of Caldera, in Puntarenas, Costa Rica was constructed in the seventies due to heavy congestion of the traditional port of Puntarenas, and started operating in 1982. Caldera port is located a few miles to the north.

This Port is severed by a highway which connects the capital city of San José, some 110 Kms. Away, and where we have most of the industrial and economic activity of this country.

There is a new project which dramatically reduce the length and the transit time to the port. It is designed to eliminate most of the treacherous mountain road, which makes it difficult to mobilize heavy equipment. (MOPT has a maritime port division too)

INCOP, is the Port Authority an Economic Government Development Agency for the region, is responsible for operation of this full service Port Caldera and Punta Morales.
