A unique feature of Port Limon is its almost pure water supply.
Horace Strickland, from Mississippi, arrived in Costa Rica in the 1970s and drilled for water at 71 meters. He struck lucky and now supplies 1.500 tonnes of water to cruise ships each year.
Priced at $6.50 per tonne, the water has an approved laboratory certificate, continuously updated, and can be consumed without filtering as long as the ships hold is totally free of contamination.
Water is also bought to balance cargo ships. Because it is uncontaminated it can be pumped into the sea untreated when the ship reaches her destination , thus reducing cost.
